16-Year Old Stowes Away on 5 1/2 Hour Hawaiian Airlines Flight; Criminal Charges not Pressed
A 16-year-old ran away from home, jumped a fence at San Jose's Mineta international airport, and stowed away on a flight to Hawaii; he was hiding in the left rear wheel well. Turned over to child protective services, he will not face criminal charges. Hawaiian Airlines flight 45, a Boeing 767, was 5 1/2 hours long with its wheel well having poor air circulation and temperatures as low as 80 degrees below zero when the plane breached 38,000 feet. It was reported that the boy was unconscious for most of the flight and had no intentions of going to Hawaii.
