18-foot Sea Monster Found in California
More than 15 people were needed to drag ashore the carcass of a giant sea creature after Jasmine Santana of the Catalina Island Marine Institute spotted the sight of a lifetime while snorkeling. The 18-foot long carcass was that of a serpent-like oarfish known for diving as deep as 3,000 feet. Sightings of the fish are rare and little is known of the deep-water pelagic fish. According to CIMI, the fish died of natural causes.
