2,000 Snow Geese Fall Dead From Sky in Idaho
At least 2,000 snow geese fell dead from the sky while migrating to Alaskan nesting grounds in what is suspected to be the work of avian cholera. Found in eastern Idaho, the carcasses were retrieved over the weekend and incinerated. Biologists are awaiting results from a state wildlife lab, but suspect the contagious bacteria to be the cause due to the sudden nature of the deaths. While not a risk to humans, the bacteria can survive in soil and water for up to four months.
