22 Year Old Killed by Amtrak Train in Elon
While walking on the railroad tracks near Elon University's Physical Plant buildings, 22-year-old Malcolm Carnelius Sims was killed by an Amtrak train. Struck from the back, investigators believe Sims was unaware of the train as headphones were recovered at the scene. Sims was killed instantly and the train was delayed for three hours while 44 passengers waited for another engineer to operate it for the remaining journey. It's standard procedure for a train to sound its horn in such situations.
