After Absorbing Afghani Grenade Blast for Comrade, Marine to Receive Medal of Honor
Former marine William Kyle Carpenter will receive the Medal of Honor for heroically jumping on a grenade to save the life of his friend, Lance Cpl. Nicholas Eufrazio in Afghanistan. The medically retired corporal will become the service's third Medal of Honor recipient from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Carpenter, 24, lost his right eye, most of his teeth and his arm was broken in several places from the grenade that was thrown on the rooftop he was guarding in Afghanistan's Helmand province; both men survived the blast. Carpenter's recovery journey can be followed via the Facebook page Operation Kyle.
