Archaeologists Find Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria off Haiti Coast
Archaeologists claim to have found Christopher Columbus's flagship, the Santa Maria, off the northern coast of Haiti almost five centuries after the shipwreck. The finding, made by Barry Clifford, is thought to be one of the world's most significant underwater archaeological discoveries. Only surveys of the sight have been made so far- measuring and photographing the site. The location of the shipwreck was derived from several underwater expeditions and descriptions from Christopher Columbus' diary.
