California Judge Rules Teacher Tenure Unconstitutional
A California judge ruled in favor of nine students who say the state's teacher tenure, dismissal and layoff laws are unconstitutional. The students, assisted by the nonprofit Students Matter, asserted that the laws left bad teachers in the classrooms and kept good teachers out. One of the students' arguments is that tenure is given too quickly. The case is pending an appeal by the state and the teachers' union.
