Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon Indicted for Accepting Over $48,00 in Bribes
The mayor of Charlotte, Patrick Cannon, has been arrested on charges of accepting more than $48,000 in bribes from FBI agents after less than six months on the job. Cannon, a 47-year-old Democrat, faces theft and bribery charges after he accepted the bribe from agents posing as real estate developers. Bribes included cash, airline tickets, a hotel room and the use of an extravagant apartment. They were traded for access to city officials in charge of planning, zoning and permitting. Cannon faces up to 20 years in prison and more than $1 million in fines if convicted.
