Composer Chopin's Heart Secretly Exhumed in Warsaw
It was revealed today that a secretive exhumation of composer Frederic Chopin's heart was completed in April 2014 by a mix of scientists, clergy and scholars in the middle of the night in Warsaw. The majority of the composer's remains are still buried in Paris' famous Pere Lachaise Cemetery, but Chopin made a dying request at age 39 that his heart be returned to Poland, his beloved homeland. Apparently smuggled past Russian border guards, the 13-person clandestine committee managed to have it buried in a pillar at Warsaw's Holy Cross Church.
