Dr. Oz Scolded in Hearing for Promoting Weight Loss Scams
Oz, the renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, had to appear before the Senate's consumer protection panel for 'false' claims he made about weight-loss aids on his TV show. Oz acknowledged that his words were "flowery" but that he never endorsed specific companies or products. Oz was scolded for a 2012 show where he said green coffee extract was a "magic weight loss cure for every body type." Companies have since been reaping benefits from using the show segment to promote green coffee products. Oz maintains that he never endorsed specific supplements and that any use of his image in ads was "illegal."
