'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' actor James Avery dies at 65
The 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' actor James Avery died on Tuesday at age 65 in Glendale, California after complications from open-heart surgery. Avery was best known for his role as Phil Banks in the popular 1990s television series The Fresh Prince of Bel Air starring Will Smith as his on-screen nephew. He also appeared in a number of films, starred in TV shows including Gray's Anatomy and Star Trek Enterprise, hosted TV program Going Places, and gave voice-overs in animated TV series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Iron Man. Avery was reunited with most of the 'Bel Air' cast two years ago at a charity event.
