Hands-Free Technology for New Cars Available in 2015
An autopilot tool for cars has been engineered taking the driving experience one step closer to self-driving cars. The Cruise RP-1 can be installed in nearly any vehicle and allows drivers to travel roads without touching the steering wheel or pedal, as it automatically adjusts speed to maintain a safe distance from other cars with the simple push of the Cruise button. The system includes a "sensor pod" for the roof, a radar, GPS, inertial sensors, actuators that control steering and an on-board computer. Systems are currently priced at $10,000 each with installation. California will offer the first systems in 2015.
