House Passes Government Funding Bill Only Hours Before Deadline
After a narrowly missed government shutdown, the House passed a massive spending bill late Thursday. Passing only by a 219-206 vote with support from 57 Democrats, the bill created a public rift between the White House and progressive Democrats who objected to the inclusion of a rollback of financial reforms. The White House released a statement saying that while the president "objects to the inclusion of ideological and special interest riders," the bill has his support overall and he will not veto it. The financial reforms have been branded a "bailout for big banks at taxpayers' expense."
