Hubble Telescope Photo Captures Smiling Galaxies Face
It's not every day scientists look into a telescope and see a smiley face. The Hubble space telescope captured a picture of Galaxy cluster SDSS J1038+4849 that appears to form the perfect smiley face emoji. The eyes are actually two bright galaxies while the 'smile lines' are caused by strong gravitational lensing that can create an arch effect. Spotted by Judy Schmidt in 2012, she entered the photo into the Hubble's Hidden Treasure competition, which allows people to go through the Hubble archive and process the images.
