Humanoid Robot Gets Overhaul for The DARPA Robotics Challenge
The humanoid Atlas robot has been overhauled by Google company Boston Dynamics and is now lighter, stronger, more independent and able to function for one hour of mixed-missions. "Designed by the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), it stands six feet two inches tall." After being stripped down and replaced with lighter materials, the robot only weighs 254 pounds with the inclusion of a 3.7 kWh Li-Ion battery pack and a variable-pressure pump. The robot will be entered in the DARPA Robotics Challenge finals June 5-6 in Pomona, California.
