Jason Collins Becomes First Openly Gay NBA Player
Jason Collins became the first openly gay NBA player when he signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets basketball team on Sunday. He signed in time to play against the Los Angeles Lakers. Collins first came out of the closet in April. The Nets ended up beating the Lakers 108 to 102. Brooklyn also played a huge part in sports history in 1947 when it was the first team (the Brooklyn Dodgers) to break the color barrier in baseball by signing on Jackie Robinson.
