LAX Shooting, Warnings That Came too Late
Paul Ciancia, 23, is in critical condition and facing the death penalty after walking into Los Angeles International Airport and shooting a TSA officer at point blank range and injuring two others. Ciancia used a .223-caliber assault rifle. Family concern over unhappy texts sent by Ciancia led police to respond by arriving at his apartment shortly after he left, but they were too late. Motive is still unsure, though a note found on the suspect said he wanted to kill TSA employees to "instill fear" in the agents' "traitorous minds." Gerardo Hernandez is the first TSA officer to die in line of duty since the agency was created in 2001.
