Lovers' Locks Bring Part of Paris' Pont des Arts Crumbling Down
The Pont des Arts, a bridge in Paris, is known as a place for couples to latch padlocks and throw the keys into the river as a symbol of undying love; however, late Sunday it became a hazard when a chunk of the fencing crumbled away and fell into the Seine river. Though the locks are periodically removed by officials, they always spring back with fervor. Suggestions for possible alternatives have included tying ribbons or building a sculpture for the lovers' locks.
