Man Urinates in Reservoir Causing Portland to Drain 38 Million Gallons of Water
38 million gallons of water will have to be drained from a reservoir used for drinking water in Portland, Ore. after a young man was caught peeing into it. Though it is unlikely the public's health was in danger, officials are not taking any chances when it comes to the Mt. Tabor Reservoir system. The urinator may face criminal charges though incidents in the past, including urination and skinny dipping, have only resulted in community service as punishment. Portland city leaders are waiting on the May ballot that could shift control of the Water Bureau from the City Council to an independently elected board to decide whether or not to comply with the federal government's order to cover open-air reservoirs.
