Massive Data Breach hits Target
Retail store Target was hit with a massive data breach by hackers between Nov. 27 and Dec 15, which affected nearly 40 million of customers' credit and debit cards accounts. Target confirmed the breach, saying the "issue has been identified and resolved." The breach is being investigated by both Target, a third party forensic firm and the Secret Service--though many details are still unknown. Compromised software through a phishing attack or inserted malware may have been involved, according to the New York Times. Online shoppers were not affected, though Target shoppers are advised to check their bank accounts for unauthorized expenses.
