Meryl Streep, Stevie Wonder and 18 Others Awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom
    President Obama bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the arts, sports and politics, to Meryl Streep, Stevie Wonder, Ethel Kennedy and 17 others. The award recognizes those who have made "meritorious contributions" to U.S. security, world peace or cultural endeavors. The biggest applause came when the posthumous medals were awarded to the families of civil rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, who were killed in 1964 when participating in a "historic voter registration drive in Mississippi."..
