Missouri Governor Initiates State of Emergency in Ferguson
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency ahead of the grand jury ruling against the white Ferguson police officer who fatally shot 18-year-old Michael Brown. The decision was made to prevent civic unrest and to assist local police in case the decision sparked a resurgence of "violence or intimidation." The grand jury decision is expected in late November.
