NASA's New Kepler K2 Mission Discovers Exoplanet
Using its new mission K2, NASA's Kepler spacecraft discovered its first exoplanet. The discovery proves Kepler can still find planets even after its reaction wheel failure last summer. The newly-discovered planet, HIP 116454b, is 2.5 times the diameter of Earth and follows a nine-day orbit around a star that is both smaller and cooler than our sun. This would make the planet too hot to sustain life as we know it. The planet is 180 light years away in the direction of the constellation Pisces.
