N.C.A.A. Endorses Greater Autonomy for 5 Richest Conferences
The N.C.A.A. Division 1 board of directors announced on Thursday that the 5 richest conferences totaling 65 universities will have the right to make their own rules regarding issues affecting athletes and competition. The Southeastern Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pacific-12, the Big Ten and the Big 12 will now be able to raise scholarship values, improve health insurance and allow players to consult agents if the endorsement passes a required 60-day comment period without dissent from 75 universities. The ruling was passed by a 16-2 vote.
