Nurse Kaci Hickox Defies Ebola Quarantine, State Threatens Legal Action
The first testing of public health concerning Ebola and a person's constitutional rights are being tested as nurse Kaci Hickox has refused to abide by the 21-day in-house quarantine, instead going for a bike ride. Maine Gov. Paul LePage has vowed to "use the full extent of his authority allowable by law" to prevent her from coming in contact with the public. Federal officials have left public health concerns down to each state's own policies, cautioning only that they should be based on "science, not fear." State officials are threatening a court order if Hickox continues to defy the quarantine.
