NYC Skyscraper to become Tallest Building in North America
The Council of Tall Building and Urban Habitat confirmed that One World Trade Center will become the tallest building in North America upon completion next year in New York. The building will take the place of Chicago's Willis Tower commonly known as the Sears Tower. With its spire, the building will reach 1,776 feet, while the Willis Tower only reaches 1,451 feet. Because antennas do not meet the council's ranking criteria, the Willis Tower's full height of 1,729 is not counted. Since the NYC skyscraper's spire does not contain communications equipment, it will officially become the "Tallest Building in North America."
