Opera Singer Renee Fleming Sings National Anthem at Super Bowl
Renee Fleming broke records by becoming the first opera singer to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl. She performed live with a military choir and a recording of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra before kickoff at Super Bowl XLVIII. Fleming's performance came as a surprise when she announced she would sing without a backing vocal track saying, "I only know how to sing live." The National Anthem is usually sang by pop stars.
