Pastor Fred Phelps of Westboro Baptist Church is 'On the Edge of Death'
Rev. Fred Phelps Sr., the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan. and infamous for staging controversial funeral protests, is on his deathbed in hospice care, according to his son. Phelps was excommunicated from the church and they have refused to allow his relatives to see him. Westboro Baptist was known for showing up at U.S. service personnel's funerals, alleging that their deaths are the consequence of America's tolerance of homosexuality. Though Phelps' estranged son wrote on Facebook that Fred is "on the edge of death," the church denied that his was condition was critical.
