Polygamist Warren Jeffs' Ranch Seized After Charges of Sexually Abusing Children
Texas authorities seized the 1,600-acre ranch of polygamist leader Warren Jeffs, who is currently serving a life sentence for sexual abuse against two girls. The police had court orders to take possession of the ranch near El Dorado where eight adults were residing. The Attorney General's Office filed for the property to be seized in 2012. 468 children were initially removed in 2008 in response to hot line calls about abuse and rape, but they had to be returned when the Texas Supreme Court ruled the state had no evidence that they were in immediate danger. Jeffs is currently serving a life sentence after a 2011 trail found him guilty of sexual assault against two girls, 12 and 15.
