Ray Rice Cut from Ravens and Suspended from N.F.L for Domestic Abuse
The National Football League's handling of Ray Rice's domestic abuse case is under review after a video released on Monday led to the Baltimore Ravens running back's contract termination and permanent suspension from the league. After Rice was filmed punching his wife in the face and dragging her motionless from a hotel elevator, his fiancee, now wife, refused to testify against him in a March case where he was charged with felony assault; all charges were dropped. The N.F.L. disciplined him with a two-game suspension. The emergence of the new video is leading to inquiries of what the N.F.L. knew and when.
