Seattle City Council Raises Minimum Wage to $15
The Seattle City Council passed an ordinance that will gradually increase the city's minimum wage to $15, making it the highest in the nation. A raised minimum wage played a prominent role in Mayor Ed Murray's campaign last year. Effective April 1, 2015, the plan allows for slower wage increases for small businesses. Businesses with 500 or more employees will have three years to phase in the increase. It also includes a sub-minimumwage for teenagers. The current wage in Washington state is $9.32 an hour.
