Skeptical of Sciences, Ted Cruz Elected to Oversee NASA in New Congress
Along with Republicans now controlling Congress, the chair of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will now be Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a position that places him over NASA and science programs. With the senator's precedents painting him as a far cry from a science advocate, many are concerned about the future of space and science funding. It was Cruz's infamous speech in September 2013 that led to a 16-day government shutdown barring 97 percent of NASA employees from work and displacing several interns who relied on NASA for housing. Cruz has also gone on record as saying there isn't enough evidence to support global warming and that he was skeptical of "the so-called" scientific theory.
