Soy Sauce Compound Effective Against Drug-Resistant HIV
A recent discovery shows that a compound found in soy sauce is proving to be 70 times more effective against drug-resistant HIV. Whereas commonplace drugs such as Tenofovir are known to have problems with drug resistance, the molecule, EFdA, is "more readily activated and is less quickly broken down by the body." Discovered as a flavor enhancer, EFdA "hijacks" the HIV tricking the virus into using it as a building block, which prevents the virus from replicating and spreading.
