Sriracha Smell Declared a Public Nuisance by Irwindale Council
A unanimous vote from the Irwindale City Council in California has declared Huy Fong Foods emittance of the smell of Sriracha hot sauce a public nuisance. The company will have 90 days to mitigate the odor after the council adopts an official resolution at its next meeting. Residents complain of burning eyes and throats most prominent at certain times of day. The hot sauce maker's attorney told the council that the company plans to submit an action place to have the problem fixed by June 1. Using active carbon filters would resolve the smell. Despite all of the complaints, the city wants to keep the hot sauce factory.
