Study Shows Link Between Gravatars and Personality
A study published in the "Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin" showed a correlation between digital avatars and a person's personality. Using the Big Five personality traits: openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism, researchers found links such as those highly agreeable giving their avatars features that would prompt others to befriend them. It was also found that people high in neuroticism were harder to accurately predict based on their avatar. The study asked a group of 209 students if they would befriend the avatar creators; students were able to accurately determine a person's extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism based on the avatar but failed to discern a person's openness or conscientiousness.
