Tesla Motors Banned in New Jersey
New Jersey's motor vehicle commission voted to ban the direct sale of automobiles to customers, as a result, Tesla Motors must cease all of its sales in the state. Tesla's practice of selling cars directly to consumers is only one of the ways the carmaker has set itself apart. The two stores Tesla currently operates in New Jersey, which have sold around 500 cars, will have to end all sales by April 1. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has received sharp criticism from the electronic car company for "stifling its operations and innovation." Lobbying efforts for the restriction were reported to amount to $155,000. Christie's administration said Tesla's new sales model requires additional legislation.
