Texas Gov. Perry to Send 1,000 National Guardsmen to U.S. and Mexico Border
Texas Gov. Rick Perry is reportedly announcing on Monday that he is ordering 1,000 National Guard troops to the U.S. border with Mexico. The troops are expected to cost about $12 million per month. Joining the Texas Department of Public Safety, the troops would aid in combat against human smuggling and drug trafficking. Border problems have been reoccurring with youths from Central America illegally crossing the Rio Grande. Within the past year, the number of minors illegally crossing has more than doubled. President Obama has called on Congress for $3.7 billion in emergency funds to handle the crisis.
