Title IX Complaints Leave 55 Colleges Facing Sexual Assault Investigation
The U.S. Department of Education released a list of 55 higher education institutions that are being investigated for "allegedly mishandling sexual assault and harassment on campus." The charges would be in violation of the gender equity law Title IX. It is the first time schools that are under review have been revealed; the list was released for increased transparency. Title IX complaints involving sexual violence shot up from 17 in Fiscal Year 2012 to 37 in the first half of FY 2014 alone.
