Transgender Teen Forced by DMV to Remove Makeup
A transgender rights advocacy group is arguing the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles limited a 16 year old's free speech rights when they made him remove makeup for a driver's license photo. Chase Culpepper was told he didn't look "like a boy should" and was forced to take off his "disguise" before being photographed after he passed the exam. Chase says he is "gender non-conforming" and regularly wears makeup. The DMV claimed they had specific requirements that do not allow stage makeup for license photographs. The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund is arguing that the DMV allow Chase to retake his photo.
