Two Hostages and Gunman Left Dead After Sydney Siege
Three people were left dead after heavily armed police stormed into a Sydney cafe where a gunman held more than a dozen people hostage. The tense standoff lasted more than 16 hours and ended when Iranian-brn Man Haron Monis was fatally shot in the police raid. Two hostages were also killed. The situation began on Monday morning when hostages were forced to display a black and white Muslim flag in the windows of the Lindt cafe in Martin Place. The flag is commonly associated with Islamist terrorist groups. The Australian government has been fighting as part of an international coalition against ISIS in the past few months and have up to 60 national and resident currently fighting in jihadist ranks in the Middle East.
