UAB Shuts Down Football Program to Students' Dismay
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is shutting down its football program after a consulting firm conducted a campus-wide study that revealed UAB was subsidizing $20 million of the athletic department's operating budget of some $30 million annually. The university was ranked fifth in Conference USA and will be the first major college football program since Pacific in 1995 to shut down.
