Ukraine Truce Falls Through; As Many as 100 Dead
Doubting the call for a truce from the Ukrainian government, protesters marched on police lines Thursday throwing firebomb; government snipers returned fire leading to a battle that left as many as 100 people dead and even more injured. Protesters rushed in to save comrades that were cut down by gunfire using shields to protect themselves as they hauled the wounded away on sheets of plastic or planks of wood. The melee is the most recent development in the ongoing battle between President Viktor Yanukovych and the opposition protesters over the identity of Ukraine and its divided ties between Russia and the West.
