U.S. Strikes Prisoner Exchange with Taliban, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl Released
The U.S. agreed to the release of five prominent Taliban figures in exchange for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, America's only known prisoner of war in Afghanistan. Bergdahl, 23, was captured in June 2009 and after initial care in a German hospital, was returned to the U.S. forces this weekend. The Obama Administration is facing resistance from Republican lawmakers who claim there should have been congressional approval before the release of high-ranking Taliban militants who could spark the group's efforts even as American soldiers pull out of Afghanistan.
